I’ve been watching the aviary all day
Every hour or so I’ve been checking on them all and it’s been quiet and fine
Then just now I find a quail dead in the middle of the aviary with its skin, fat and muscle eaten off only it’s head, neck and back. Picked clean.
They all have food and water and they share 11m2+ between 12 quail and two...

what a seriously crap couple of days, yesterdays malaise was all entirely my own fault on three counts, and today I just had to humanely dispatch one of my quails because birds can be so brutal sometimes… they’re pretty vicious when they mate anyway, the males rip feathers out of the back of the females heads and sometimes there can be blood, and when birds see blood for some reason...
