I made a new brooder for the bantam chick! There’s a 60W infrared bulb inside the box with some sawdust and a sand/earth mix outside. Sticks, grass, pebbles and rocks make it more fun and the food and water is outside so it hardens her off a little.
The idea is that it’s a bit more natural, if she had been hatched under a chicken shed be outside pecking an scratching and adventuring. This way she’s still in a controlled environment but has interesting, fun things to do.
It’s about 28C in the box and the house is normal room temp (18-22C) do its not a huge drop when she goes in and out, enough to help her adjust.
I can hear her just now in the box, bubbling away happily and pecking! Too sweet.
